Recap Of Industrial Training For Week 7 & 8
Week 7
17/5/2010
- Installed a few work related software in a PC at payment counter.
18/5/2010
- Installed Microsoft Excel 2007 on 2 PC at the Department of Engineering.
- Troubleshoot a non-responsive PC at the Department of Social and Community. Problem are caused by 2 anti-virus installed on the PC, thus heavy on the system's RAM. Proceed to uninstall one of the anti-virus and the PC are back to normal again.
- Troubleshoot a network problem on a PC at the Department of Social and Community. Problem are caused by broken LAN port at the cubicle.

- Troubleshoot a network problem on the PC at the Department of Engineering. Problem are caused by incorrect TCP/IP setting on the PC.
20/5/2010
- Maintaining a PC at the Department of Information Technology. The PC is connected to a printer that is always used by staff of other department. Staff are always complaining that the PC is slow and sometimes non-responsive. The cause of the problem is load of unnecessary software and small capacity RAM.
21/5/2010
- Troubleshoot a PC that cannot enter Windows because of corrupted files in Windows. Proceed to repair the Windows using Windows XP recovery CD. After the PC can be booted into Windows, periodic maintenance is done to the PC.
Week 824/5/2010- Troubleshoot a PC at the One Stop Center Department. The PC shuts down automatically without user's consent. Suspected the cause of problem is because the power supply also powers the monitor, therefore the CPU has inadequate power. Proceed to installed an independent power cable for the monitor. No problems reported so far.
25/5/2010- Changing the IP address of the PC's at payment counter. Each of the PC at the payment counter has its own fixed IP address so that if the server is down, the PC at the payment counter will not be affected and still has its own connection to the internet and intranet.
- Checking the specs of the PC's at One Stop Centre Department, the Department of Urban Planning and the Department of Development. The report of the specs of the PC's will be submitted to KPKT (Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan) to ensure whether these PC'c are capable of running the OSC (One Stop Center) Online system.
26/5/2010- Attend a briefing about 5S (Sisih, Susun, Sapu, Seragam, Selalu Amal).
27/5/2010- Installed Latest Mozilla Firefox internet browser software on 20 computers at the Department of IT's Koridor Siber.

Week 5
3/5/2010
- Has found the source of the problem of the PC that kept hanging (30/4/2010). It is cause by a software that is used to reset the PC to the original state after each reboot. The software (called DeepFreeze) is used to undo any changes to the PC at the C partition. The software is part of the security software used by MPM.

- Troubleshoot a network problem at the Department of Management services.
5/5/2010
- Maintained 3 PC at the Department of Management Services.
6/5/2010
- Installed back 2 PC back at the workstation around MPM's building after maintenance has been done to the PCs. The workstation is useas a kiosk to provide free internet access to the public.
7/5/2010
- Done a troubleshoot towards a laptop used by a staff of MPM. The laptop kept restarting a few minutes after usage.
Week 6
10/5/2010- Installed a printer at a meeting room for the use of the auditors visiting and evaluating MPM for ISO 9001:2008
11/5/2010- Preparing the documents and sorting them out for the audit process.

26/4/2010- Maintained 2 PC at the department of urban planning.
27/4/2010
- Troubleshoot a printer that is out of ink.
28/4/2010
- Making a ghost copy for 2 PC. these PC's is used for public internet access at the payment counter. Ghost copy is he process of copying the contents of one computer hard disk to another disk or to an "image" file. Ghost copy will provisioned the PC with a standard set of software so that a new user is ready to go straight away with a complete application suite and does not have to waste time formatting the PC and installing individual applications.

- Done a maintainence towards 4 pc at the department of urban planning.

- Done a troubleshoot towards a PC. The PC kept hanging after a minute or two after start-up. Currently still diagnosing the problem.

- Maintaining a laptop
- Designing new name tag design for practical students of MPM. 5 different design has need made.
21/4/2010
- Helping IT technician to install a new cabling system at a new spot at the Department of Treasury.
22/4/2010
- Designing more name tag design. The 5 initial design for practical students has been scrapped and 6 new design has been made. 3 new designs for staff name tag also had been made.

- Maintaining 2 computers at the Department of Urban Planning
As you notice there is no activity on the date of 19/4/2010. This is because that Monday is holiday in Perak in conjunction with Hari Keputeraan Sultan Perak, hence the 4 days of activity only.
Recap of Industrial Training for the past 2 weeks
First of all, I would like to apologize for starting the blog for the Industrial Training a little late (that's 2 weeks!). Only lately I have the time and opportunity to set up my new blog account and start posting the entries. Anyhow here are the recap of my Industrial Training for the past 2 weeks (chronologically):
Week 1
5/4/2010
- Being explained by host supervisor about the organizational flow of the Department of Information Technology.
- Being explained by host supervisor the type and scope of work that is done by the Department of Information Technology.
- Being explained about the rules within the organization.
- Getting use and familiarizing with the new working environment and also get to know new colleague.
6/4/2010
- Edited a few photos that will be used in video slide for Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang 2010 held by MPM tomorrow.
- Discuss with a senior co-worker about the possibilities to redesign and revamp the MPM website graphic layout.
7/4/2010
- Done a trouble shooting on a faulty LAN cable at the Department of Audit.
8/4/2010
- Done a preventive maintenance towards 2 computers at the Department of Engineering. The preventive maintenance are part of bi-yearly maintenance schedule done by the Department of IT. The maintenance including cleaning the computers, checking the hardware and checking software.
9/4/2010
- Done a maintenance on 2 computers at the Department of Social and Community. It is worth noting that not only the hardware and software is checked and maintain, all of the computers that are maintained are also being clean from dust and the software are also updated according to the software regulated by the Department of IT.
Week 2
12/4/2010
- Done a maintenance on 2 computers at One Stop Center and 2 computers at the Department of Evaluation.
- Being explained by host supervisor about 3 newly installed hardware at the server room. The hardware are load balancer, internet access management and firewall.
13/4/2010
- Maintaining 3 computers at the Department of Evaluation.
14/4/2010
- Hooking up a laptop to a projector for a meeting.
- Maintaining 3 computers at the Department of Evaluation.
15/4/2010
- Maintaining 2 computers at the Department of Legal.
16/4/2010
- Cleaning the office for 5S (Sisih, Susun, Sapu, Seragam, Sentiasa Amal) practice done by every department in MPM. The practice is launch by MPM today.
